For instructional purposes, the templates are identified as follows:
A - the kite shaped template
B - the double gritted half kite
C - the diamond
D - the double gritted chopped off rectangle
E - the square
F - the triangle
If you wish to label your templates, a permanent laundry marker works well.

B - cut one and cut one reversed of background fabric
C - cut six of pastel or medium fabrics
D - cut three and cut three reversed of background fabric
E - cut five of dark fabric
F - cut four of background fabric
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Make the square sub-unit (DE) for the corner of the block. Do not sew into the seam allowance at the inner corner.
- Piece together the triangle sub-units (FE) as shown.
- Piece together three sets of two diamonds (C) each. Do not sew into the 1/4-inch seam allowances.
- Set in the square unit (DE), taking care that the dark square corners with the diamond sets (CDE).
- Sew two CDE units together, not sewing into the seam allowances. Then set in a triangular FE unit.
- Sew the remaining CDE unit to piece A, not sewing into the seam allowances. Set in piece B.
- Sew together the block halves, again not sewing into the seam allowances. Set in the remaining triangular FE unit and the piece B to complete the block.
