It was our pleasure to present the finalist and prize winning quilts in the Traditional, Large Pieced Quilt category, sponsored by ARDCOTM by QuiltSmith, Ltd., at the 2001 Houston International Quilt Festival.
A Traditional Pieced Quilt is defined as being "predominantly pieced quilts based on traditional style patterns and sets." Large means "length + width must exceed 120 inches but not exceed 240 inches. Width must not exceed 120 inches." (from IQA contest rules) Quilts in this category do not have to be made using ARDCOTM templates. However, we were pleased to point out that the first place quilt that year was made using our templates!
Many quilters think that we had a role in judging the quilts. Actually, we had no input at all in judging. We only funded the award. The first time we saw the quilts was when the show opened. We were very happy not to judge, as they all were wonderful and we think the judges had a tough job!
